An Afternoon Together

Short Film - 09.55 Minutes - 2026

In 1940, along the northern coast of France, two young Australian soldiers - Wei and Jack - are assigned to a quiet reconnaissance task far from the front lines.

As Wei meticulously maps the terrain, refusing to question the purpose of their orders, Jack can’t shake the futility of their assignment or the distance placed between them and the war they were sent to fight.
When they stumble upon a secluded beach, the world briefly loosens its hold. For a single afternoon they exist not as soldiers, but simply as two young men - laughing, playing, and sharing an intimacy that cannot be spoken.

An Afternoon Together reflects on the invisible histories of queer lives in the defence force - moments of connection that existed, yet left no record, surviving only in memory, and in the quiet possibility of what might have been.
