Director Producer Photographer
Adam Coutts is a filmmaker and photographer working across directing and producing. Drawn to visually driven, character-led storytelling, his work explores themes of masculinity, vulnerability, and queer identity through an approach driven equally by emotion, image, and atmosphere. Influenced by fashion, photography, design and contemporary cinema, he is drawn to stories where narrative is carried as much through visual language as the spoken word.
His practice is shaped by a hands-on understanding of filmmaking, developed through experience across a broad range of creative and technical disciplines. Having worked in multiple roles throughout production, he brings a collaborative, considered approach to every project, balancing creative ambition with a practical understanding of the filmmaking process.
A graduate of Swinburne University, Adam completed a two-year Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Screen and Media, specialising in film and television production, and building a hands-on foundation across directing and broader production practice.
His work has also received the support of the Peggy and Leslie Cranbourne Foundation, whose investment in his early career enabled the development and production of his award-winning graduate film. This support marked the beginning of an ongoing relationship that continues to contribute to his development as a filmmaker and
Adam lives and works on the lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong / Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation. He acknowledges the deep storytelling traditions of First Nations communities and pays his respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
